Governor Richardson, citing concerns raised by parents and doctors, has vetoed legislation mandating that Gardasil vaccines be given to girls entering the 6th grade starting this fall.
Governor, as a mom of three girls rapidly headed toward 6th grade, I thank you for not rushing this program forward. While I would love to believe in a vaccine that would protect my babies from cervical cancer, I want to make sure that this is tested and safe.

Of course it is tested and safe...what is an outrage is that women all over the country will DIE from cervical cancer because we believe Conservative falsehoods about the safety of this vaccine. This is an attack on women, especially low-income girls. Let us not forget how life was like in this country before vaccines. Women can get HPV from their husbands. This is not a moral issue.
So the Vioxx that killed all those people was safe? It was made my the same pharmaceutical company. What is the true outrage is the ignorance and/or stupidity that is present with the masses of people. These companies are out to make money! Lots and lots of money. Their first concern is for their own bottom line, not public health. And let's face it, the large companies own the politicians. As I do recognize that many vaccines have been successful in preventing disease, I don't believe this one has been tested long enough. I also do not believe this to be a moral issue. I believe it to be an education issue. Instead of simply teaching our children that a shot or a pill fixes all their problems, let's try educating them as to the importance of protection and regular exams by an OB/GYN. And, before you even mention it, there are clinics for low-income girls to get exams....
